The level in Lake Eucumbene has started to rise slightly in the past two weeks. Hopefully this will continue over the next few months. Conditions have been difficult on some days with wind but there are enough fish about to keep anglers happy on the whole.

Rivers:- ALL CLOSED TILL 29TH SEPTEMBER

===Lake Eucumbene=== Fly reports from Eucumbene have been scarce but there are some great areas to look at around the Dam wall and spill way area. Other places to look at are the Old Adaminaby area. Polaroiding is a great option when you have a bright still day, or fish first and last light with a Woolly Bugger, Scotch Poacher or Olive Matuka and you should be able to turn up a couple of fish.

===Lake Jindabyne=== Fishing has been great in Jindabyne with both Polaroiding and blind searching taking some great fish. A sinking line with Black Woolly Buggers has been very effective in the Waste Point area. One angler reported a 2.5kg fish in a recent evening session there. The last couple of hours or daylight is the best time.

Some nice fish have been caught in Jindabyne on the rough overcast days and a few on bright still days. There are big numbers of fish in the Thredbo at present and these will drop back to the lake in the coming weeks and cruise the edges looking for a feed.

It is still worth trying any of the boulder covered points and weedy bays are worth a search during the day. Although the overcast conditions are not great for polaroiding you will catch fish searching with a Woolly Bugger or similar pattern as the fish are a little less spooky in these conditions also.

If you can coincide a trip with a large high starting down low in the bight that will travel across and give still, calm and bright conditions then Polaroiding is still worth a go. Best patterns for this fishing are the stick caddis, midge pupa, and black and peacock. Fishing these inert under a indicator is often the best method. At other times a woolly bugger or Bushy's Horror will work.

Best areas to look at in Jindabyne are Sid's Bay, Rushes Bay, Kalkite, Creel Bay and Hatchery Bay.

Fish can turn up anywhere so covering water till you find fish is the key.

===Lake Tantangara=== No reports this week.

▲TopTrolling and Spinning

▲TopEucumbene

Old Adaminaby's ramp is still very good and is suitable for boats up to the 5 and a bit metre mark. A 4WD is a definite advantage with the larger boats as the water is a little shallow so being able to drive out into the water can be necessary.

Spinning with soft plastics will be the best method over the next week or so. There are big numbers of fish to be caught casting through the trees.

Don't be put off by the low water levels. The fish are a captive audience and the spinning has been as good or better than this time last year.

Drifting from a boat or casting from shore are both good methods using small medium sized Bass Minnows, Gulp Baits, Squidgy fish and Squidgy wrigglers on 1.5 -3gm heads. These are best fished with a slow roll type retrieve. *Chris Mould and Robbie Roberson from Cooma had a nice day spinning the trees last week. They only caught 3 fish but the biggest was 70 cm long! Rainbow Trout McGraths and Brown Trout Rapalas were the best lures. Conditions were windy and cold but the fishing was still quite good.

Trolling has been at its best late and early in the day. Reports have been a little scarce on the troll over all but suggest that the deeper arms of bays and anywhere with clean water has been the most conducive to good fishing. Best lures at present are Tassie Devils in colours Y48, 55, 86. Lofty's Cobras colours 51, 100 and 17. RMG Scorpions colours H59 and H60.

▲TopJindabyne

There have been some real quality fish from Jindabyne this week. Early and late has been the best with all methods, flat line, lead core, and downrigging producing fish.

The River mouth and Island areas have been the best places to troll. Kalkite and Hatchery Bay are also worth exploring with a few lures.

===Talbingo=== No Reports

Baitfishing:- Bait fishing has been excellent with some good catches of mostly Rainbows in Jindabyne, and Eucumbene. Powerbait and Scrubworms have been the best baits. With the unsettled conditions fishing has been good right through the day. With the evenings and mornings being the best on the calm clear days. Make sure you have your gloves and beanie and all the other warm gear as the frosts have been HUGE on some mornings.

  • Andy Beer from Sydney took a break from the snow and had a bait fish at the Clay Pits and was surprised to catch three Brook Trout on Pink Powerbait. All fish were in great condition and were around the 1kg and a bit mark.
  • Nick Tilevski (below) from Berridale has also been catching Brook Trout. The new Power bait Gulp in Chartreuse took this fish.

Hi Guys, Spent 5 days staying at Braemar Bay. Weather was windy for the first 4 but managed to bag 7 nice rainbows, using Gulp Rainbow Candy, I found the fish to be very timid and not very aggressive on the bite, I fished the dam wall and found the best times were from sunrise till about 11am and then from around 1500 to dark. Fish caught were in very good nick, stomach contents were a lot of yabbies, and a couple appeared not to have eaten for a while with stomach being completely empty. Thanks for the two Abu Garcia reels you guys sold me, very good quality and enjoyed using them very much. I will be back down for the long weekend and looking forward to more good fishing.

Areas to look at in Jindabyne are Kalkite, Hatchery Bay, Creel Bay, Sids Bay, Clay Pits, Stinky Bay and Hayshed Bay. In Eucumbene try the Dam Wall or Old Adaminaby. Tantangara is well worth a fish at present too. Best colours in Powerbait have been Lime Twist, Orange, Sherbet and Lemon Twist. The new Gulp Trout Bait is a new 55% stronger scent . Chunky Cheese and Rainbow Candy have been the the pick of the colours. Try the two hook rig below for best results.
