▲TopHeadlines
The level in Lake Eucumbene continues to rise and has been rising roughly 1 per cent each week. Hopefully this will continue over the next few months. Conditions have been difficult on some days with wind but there are enough fish about to keep anglers happy on the whole.
▲TopFlyfishing
Rivers:- ALL CLOSED TILL 29TH SEPTEMBERLake Eucumbene:- Fly reports from Eucumbene have been scarce but there are some great areas to look at around the Dam wall and spill way area. Other places to look at are the Old Adaminaby area. Polaroiding is a great option when you have a bright still day, or fish first and last light with a Woolly Bugger, Scotch Poacher or Olive Matuka and you should be able to turn up a couple of fish.
Lake Jindabyne:- Fishing has been great in Jindabyne with both Polaroiding and blind searching taking some great fish. A sinking line with Black Woolly Buggers has been very effective in the Waste Point area. Some nice fish have been caught in Jindabyne on the rough overcast days and a few on bright still days. There are big numbers of fish in the Thredbo at present and these will drop back to the lake in the coming weeks and cruise the edges looking for a feed.
It is still worth trying any of the boulder covered points and weedy bays are worth a search during the day. Although the overcast conditions are not great for polaroiding you will catch fish searching with a Woolly Bugger or similar pattern as the fish are a little less spooky in these conditions also.
If you can coincide a trip with a large high starting down low in the bight that will travel across and give still, calm and bright conditions then Polaroiding is still worth a go. Best patterns for this fishing are the stick caddis, midge pupa, and black and peacock. Fishing these inert under a indicator is often the best method. At other times a woolly bugger or Bushy's Horror will work. Best areas to look at in Jindabyne are Sid's Bay, Rushes Bay, Kalkite, Creel Bay and Hatchery Bay. Fish can turn up anywhere so covering water till you find fish is the key. Lake Tantangara :- No reports this week.
▲TopTrolling and Spinning
Eucumbene:- With the rising water launching will become progressively easier. For larger boats Old Adaminaby's ramp is still the best option and as the depth increases will make for less head aches. A 4WD can still be an advantage with the larger boats. Spinning with soft plastics will be the best method over the next week or so. There are big numbers of fish to be caught casting through the trees. Drifting from a boat or casting from shore are both good methods using small medium sized Bass Minnows, Gulp Baits, Squidgy fish and Squidgy wrigglers on 1.5 -3gm heads. These are best fished with a slow roll type retrieve. Trolling has been at its best late and early in the day. Reports have been a little scarce on the troll over all but suggest that the deeper arms of bays and anywhere with clean water has been the most conducive to good fishing. Best lures at present are Tassie Devils in colours Y48, 55, 86. Lofty's Cobras colours 51, 100 and 17. RMG Scorpions colours H59 and H60.
- Mick Fisher and Clayton McCormack fished Eucumbene at Buckenderra and caught four fish on Tassie Devils. One of these were on leadcore. They then dropped down to Jindabyne and threw soft plastics off the bank and caught eight fish on Squidgy Wrigglers in Bloodworm. Fish were between 800 grams and 2kg.
- Dave (aka Boris) and Col (aka Gustaf) from Canberra KGB had a great weekend catching 13 fish. Best was a 3kg Salmon and two 2kg Browns. Dave's mates also caught two very large Browns trolling black lures after dark. They have been having some great luck of late. Some of this may be attributed to the extra warm hats they have been wearing. Not a magical fashion statement but sure keeps them warm on the water.
===Baitfishing:-=== Bait fishing has been excellent with some good catches of mostly Rainbows in Jindabyne, and Eucumbene. Powerbait and Scrubworms have been the best baits. Stimulate has been an excellent addition to Scrubworms and those anglers using it have reported a jump in their catch rates. Areas to look at in Jindabyne are Kalkite, Hatchery Bay, Creel Bay, Sids Bay, Clay Pits, Stinky Bay and Hayshed Bay. In Eucumbene try the Dam Wall or Old Adaminaby. Best colours in Powerbait have been Lime Twist, Orange, Sherbet and Lemon Twist. The new Gulp Trout Bait is a new 55% stronger scent . Chunky Cheese and Rainbow Candy have been the the pick of the colours. Try the two hook rig below for best results.
