With Series 2 of Australia’s blockbuster drama Sea Patrol II: The Coup well underway, vessel captains and drivers of the top rating show are singing the praises of the Suzuki Outboard Motors, exclusively supplied to the show by Australian distributor The Haines Group.
As the HMAS Hammersley heads into the troubled waters surrounding the Australian coast, it will come face to face with a series of vessels partnered with technologically advanced Suzuki Outboard Motors.
Suzuki Marine provided the show’s producers with eight outboard engines to be used for the filming of the show, ranging from a DF4Sto a DF115TL.
Whilst some of the vessels may have looked more authentic with an old, noisy and smoky 2-stroke, the need for performance and reliability (and hearing the actors above the engine noise) were more important.
According to Sea Patrol II vessel driver John Schmidt, the motors speak for themselves when it comes to results and action in the water.
Mr Schmidt’s 7 metre barge was hired for use in the recent series and he couldn’t be happier with the way it performed.
What Mr Schmidt finds to be most impressive about the engine is the power and speed behind it.
“The barge has a Suzuki DF90 horse power 4-stroke engine and as a survey vessel, can carry up to 11 people,” he said.
“I can travel at 28 knots with only myself on board and only lose 6 knots of speed when at full capacity with 11 people,” Mr Schmidt said.
“The engine is just so quiet and the smoothness of the engine both at idle and revs was extraordinary,” he said.
Haines Suzuki Marine General Manager Greg Haines said he was not surprised with the success of the motors used in Sea Patrol II; attributing its popularity to more advanced technological innovations than any other outboard manufacturer.
“Suzuki now offers the most extensive line-up of clean and efficient 4-stroke outboard motors that provide boaters with the best combination of performance, ease of use and value,” Mr Haines said. “For example, Suzuki’s compact powerhead and offset driveshaft make the DF90 the smallest and lightest outboard in the 90-horsepower category.
“We understood the importance placed on the role of the motors by Sea Patrol II producers and were confident Suzuki could do the job and do it with ease,” he said.
The inclusion of these motors in the popular seafaring series is sure to be a hit with boaties who can see first hand how the motors handle themselves in the wild and turbulent conditions that arise throughout the episodes.
You can catch all the politics on the high seas by tuning in to Sea Patrol II: The Coup at 8:30pm Mondays on Channel 9.
