Fishing Report - July

It's been another good month on the bay with some great captures for my clients. I had the pleasure of getting some young anglers onto their first Trevally and other species recently.

Zac with Golden Trevally
Watching a Father and his sons share some special time fishing together is a great experience as was watching the young fellas do battle with some good fish. The law now states that anyone under 12 years of age must have a life jacket on while the boat in not at anchor,it is going to be very hot for the young ones during summer but if it saves lives it will be worth it.

The Trevally of various species and Queenfish have certainly been active on certain days keeping anglers very happy with their stubborn fighting qualities and aerial antics. Both species have been readily taking Fly and the ever reliable Terminator Snapbacks rigged on 1/2 oz TT jig heads.

Trevally
There's also the odd good Squire aka Snapper taking soft plastics around the arty and there's been some tailor around the mouth of the Mary River. The tuna have been really quiet in the southern bay but as the water warms during August we should see them make a return for the fly and lure casters.
Queenfish 3
The Broard Bar mackerel are still around and I've had reports of people still trolling a few up around the Woody Islands but not in the numbers they were in June and will probably tapper off even more during August. August should see good numbers of flathead around willing to take a well presented lure or fly at any of the creek mouths along the island.

The 31st of August is when the the new Green Zones come into effect, but the co-ordinates wont be released until that day!! according to the local papper, bloody typical of the Beattie Govt to keep us in the dark until the final moment.

Shaun with big Golden Trevally
It would have been to sensible to release them a few weeks earlier so everyone could familiarise themselves with them and mark the areas in their GPS if they have one so their not fishing in the wrong place.

I still can't get anyone to give me any scientific reasons as to why the zones are where they are, I've asked local MP McNamara via the Chronicil's letters to the editor with no response.

Seb with Golden Trevally
I would have thought that if someone claims this to be their Best Work Yet they could at least answer some pretty simple questions about it, he obviously doesn't know the answers.
Tom with GT
I just hope the people of this region DO NOT VOTE for this guy after what he has done to their fishing areas and his continued support of Beattie in the destruction of the Mary river and the Great Sandy Straits through the mega dam at Traverston Crossing.

Getting involved in groups like Sunfish that fight for the rights of Recreational fisherpersons is one way the Govt will start to listen to us. As individuals we mean little to them but as a group and there is a lot of us out there!!! they see numbers and that means votes and that's all there interested in.

Until next month Fish For Fun & Release for the Future Paul
