Theres been a few weird fish showing up round Victorian waters, there was the washed up Marlin not long ago but before that there were 2 seperate sightings of 2 " Marlin " swiming around Port Philip Bay, there were no pics and no one is sure if the guys had had a drink or two before the sighting. There was another report of a Dolphin fish being hooked out near the Rip but again its unconfirmed, but it would be great if these fish were in our waters then us Victorians could have a chance of catching some game fish that you guys from interstate take for granted. They are not just heading south. Last trip out in the Maroochy river in SE Qld I caught a yellow eye sand mullet. I know the fish well as I used to catch heaps at Narooma. I have never caught one before in Qld. The other odity was I caught a Remora in the Maroochy river the week earlier. In this area we get Remoras but always 30 km offshore. I've never seen them inshore . The same day I caught four Golden trevalley. Hervey bay is usually a far south as they come. Cheers Fiik. |

Any chance you can redirect some of your pelargics down south and through the heads into Port Philip bay and up around to the Rosebud / Dromana area for a fishing session this Sunday arvo please?? It would be great to pull out a nice big GT or 2 from my home waters. Kaz KaZ <{{{>< Of all the things I have ever lost its my mind I miss the most. |

G'day Kaz, Although it is true that I wait for high tide then walk out to my favourite spots I may have a few problems getting the GT's to rosebud by tomorrow. Actually I was fishing Vic style today. Big schools of seagar have come into the Maroochy river . It happens with the first cold snap each autumn. I got 40 odd nice gar up to 38cm. Just had some fillets for tea. Beautiful, good as whiting. Cheers Fiik. |

Ah well looks like I will have to work on the boss for a fishing trip up north. Sounds like you had a great Gar session Fiik, what baits do you use for Gars ? I use the white fish and a heap of berley, when the Gars are on down this way its shoulder to shoulder on the jetties and not enough fish to go around to make a feed, but they are good fun to hook. Cheers Kaz KaZ <{{{>< Of all the things I have ever lost its my mind I miss the most. |

Hi Kaz, I use chicken pellets and fishoil as berley. I use small bits of prawn for bait. It's funny when I am fishing for gar I use the bait shop prawns. When I am bream fishing I go to woolies and buy their large green bannana prawns. Most of the bait prawns are full of sodium meta-bisulphate to stop fungus from turning them black. Woolies prawns don't seem to have any(doubt if it's legal for human consumption they have enough problems with it in wines). The bream seem to prefer no chemicals in their tucker. Cheer Fiik. |
