"It's the patient angler who catches the fish" Those were the words of my long-suffering fiance last night as we were travelling home from Georgetown here in Northern Tasmania. Targa Tasmania was in town on Tuesday the 17th and I was there to watch, with some fishing thrown in during the downtime. It was getting late in the day and the conditions weren't ideal but I had this feeling something might happen. Sure enough, the water exploded in York Cove with baitfish leaping everywhere and seagulls divebombing the water. You beauty, I thought. I cast to where the most of the action was and immediately hooked up. A minute or two later and I had a nice 35cm salmon flapping around on the pontoon. He was followed pretty quickly by 3 of his mates while my new-found fishing buddy Abraham landed a much bigger specimen, close to 45cm. Things quietened down after that, but not for long. Another commotion ensued, this time I swear they were small garfish jumping with something in hot pursuit. I landed a 60cm barracouta, would they be the garfish chasers or would there have been a possibility of something larger, Kingfish perhaps? I've been fishing from the pontoon in Georgetown's York Cove nearly every week over the last 3-4 months and this is the first time I've seen action as good as yesterdays. Lets hope it repeats itself on Thursday when I'll be in G'Town after work... |
