What do you think of burley limitations because i live in a part where our only saltwater gamefish is the mako shark which i love to catch but the maximum amount of burley for a day is 10 litres which i believe is not enough and what harm would come from using too much. |

Well certainly from WA standards it would bring all the big toothy's in too close we have a problem as it is with large sharks comming too close to the swimming beach's I love fishing for sharks but dont want to see anyone get munched because too much chum was used Andrew
I have a bit of a problem I'm a tackle junkie Andrew |

but there should be a boundary with how close to the shore you are allowed to burley in my game fishing club there is a boundary of 2 kms from the beach where you are not allowed to burley within |

We also have a boundry here but not many people stick to it and thats one reason why they are going to abolish it it only takes one person to wreck it for all

Hi Toothy, This rule is one implemented by your fishing club right? Not the Victorian DPI. |

yes it only applies to members of the fishing club sggfc (south gippsland game fishing club) but we are lobbying for it to apply to everyone for the safety of the swimmers |

I would suspect then that the rule is to put you all on a level playing field and that that amount was choosen to seperate the men from the boys so to speak. You obviously have to be on the ball to maximize the effectiveness of your burleying. Eg not using too much in one hit or too often. It would also make for highly competitive burley formula - using ingredients that hold and carry better in the water - like Tuna Oil etc. This is me just theorising? |

They have a "No Burley" rule in many tournaments too. |
