Hi there, I have been fishing down the south coast reefs for 4 years now and I am very tempted to try some SP's on the reefs in October when I venture out with SeaLady Charters. I have always been a bait fisherman since I was a little tacker and have had hookups from tiny snapper and bream all the way up to 60-70lb jews, all on fresh bait. Has anyone got any ideas on the best SP's for reef fishing for snapper/morwong/flatties/kings??? I was given a SP "bucket of bait" a few yesrs ago and some jig heads, but I also got some new squidgy slick rigs but not sure if I should be trying other types like shads or minnows aswell. Any suggestions apprecaited Cheers Anthony

Hi Ant, Most of mates that fish the reefs, use Slick baits, with lots of luck with the Kingies, have also seen being used for Reddies, plastic Squid rigs, with the Jig, sitting inside the Squid, I was down the South Coast on the weekend (GODS country) got to love it. |

Howdy Anthony, Mate get yourself some 7"gulps in nuclear chicken colour. Use a 1oz jighead and just keep feeding out the line until the snapper hits the lure. We use this technique offshore on the Gold coast and have caught some good snapper on the 36 fathom line. Cheers Brent |

Hi ant - You asked about flatties I am no fishing expert but I can assure you the single best catcher of flathead is SP. However there is a downfall and that is the specialised gear required. It is essential to have a graphite rod, and braided line and to limit tangle in your expensive new line you need a quality reel that lays the line neat and tight. If you do not have this specialised gear you will never get the most out of soft plastics - you may still catch some fish (if your lucky). BUT YOU PROBABLY KNOW ALL THAT ANYWAY. |
